My name is Clive Soord and I'm trying to find out a bit more on my mother's side of the family.  My mother was Betty Hinchliffe before she married.  She was born in Burma in 1912.  Her father's name was Harold Hinchliffe.  Her mothers name is unknown, she was Burmese and died soon after my mother was born.  My mother and her sister were fostered by a woman known only as 'the old lady'.  When Harold Hinchliffe returned to England, sometime between the two world wars, he offered to take the sisters with him.  However, the sisters had been tutored by 'the old lady' to turn down the offer and stay in Burma.  Hinchliffe paid for their education.

After the war, my mother and her sister lost touch with their father.  My mother died in 1993 and I regret that I never questioned her about her early life.

I would be grateful for any information on Harold Hinchliffe, who was probably born around the 1880s and who must have spent some time in Burma.

Regards,
